D-Marin Gouvia Marina, Corfu

Two people, four yachts, one pontoon

Sailorsbreeze is not a fleet operator with a call centre. It is two of us, four boats on the same dock at Gouvia, and a base fifteen minutes from Corfu town and the airport.

We own the yachts. We maintain them ourselves rather than handing them to a yard and hoping. The person who hands you the keys on Saturday afternoon is the person who changed the impeller in March, which is why the briefing takes as long as it takes and why you can ring us on Wednesday from a bay in Paxos and get someone who knows the boat.

Bareboat, skippered, or miles under your belt with one of our skippers. That is what we do, out of one marina, in one cruising area we know properly.

How it started

It began with a client who kept coming back

Most charter companies begin with a business plan. This one began with a returning customer.

Potis had been in the Greek charter business since 2001, and running bases since 2011 — handing other people's yachts to other people's clients and fixing them when they came back. David was one of those clients, on a boat Potis was responsible for, and he came back the next season, and the one after.

What grew out of that was simple enough: if the boats were going to be maintained properly anyway, they might as well be our own. Sailorsbreeze was founded in 2020, and David's investment bought Amfitriti and Ariadne. Alfa and Asjemenou followed, and four is where we have deliberately stopped.

Four is the number two people can look after without either of us becoming an administrator. It is small enough that we know every boat's history, and small enough that we can say no to a week rather than sell you the wrong yacht because it is the one that happens to be free.

2001

Into the Greek yachting market. The beginning of the nautical background everything since has been built on.

2011

Base manager and skipper. Running the pontoon, the paperwork and the maintenance for other people's fleets.

2020

Sailorsbreeze founded. Amfitriti and Ariadne first, Alfa and Asjemenou after.

What is actually different

Four things we can say that most cannot

Not values. Things you can check.

01

The yachts are ours

Not a managed pool of other people's boats with a standard of upkeep we cannot control. Four yachts, owned, maintained in-house, every service record ours.

02

The person who briefs you is the person who fixes it

No handover team reading from a laminated card. That is also why a problem mid-week usually gets solved over the phone rather than with a boat-yard visit.

03

One base, one cruising area

Gouvia Marina, and the northern Ionian. We are not advising you about a coast we have read about. If we tell you a bay holds badly in the afternoon breeze, it is because we have dragged in it.

04

We will talk you out of it

If your crew does not fit the boat, or the week you want is the wrong week, or the route is four hours a day too ambitious, we would rather say so before you pay than read it in a review afterwards.
